The University of Gibraltar is a project that cost 10 million pounds and is chaired by Jose Julio Pisharello. It was established in July 2015 and in September it started its first academic year. It is situated on Europa Point, a location with splendid views of the sea and the city.
The University has different schools: Business, Health Studies and Sports Science, Life and Earth Sciences and Tourism and Hospitality. These faculties provide undergraduate and post-graduate programmes in collaboration with internationally recognized universities.
It aims to attract international students to Gibraltar with the quality of courses they offer in different areas such as Business, Accounting and Finance, Law and ICT, Tourism and Hospitality, Life Science and Mediterranean studies among others.
The University also has collaborations with the world’s top institutions in the different areas, for example for the Finance degrees are in collaboration with London School of Economics, and other courses with institutions like Kingston University, St George’s and Oxford Brookes University. One of the most attractive and different degrees is the one in Sports Science as a research based faculty in collaboration with the UEFA research program.
On their first year (2015/16) it will give the opportunity to study for part time students only, with full time studies available for the next year. The University provides accommodation for approximately 120 students and will also develop a languages center where international students can learn or improve English language too.
The University is also presented as an institute for professional development offering courses to those working in both the public and private sectors, such as certifications in Gibraltar tax or law.
