Everybody knows the group Boney M., a disco group created by German record producer Frank Farian which achieved popularity during the disco era of the late 1970s. The four original members of the group’s official line-up were Jamaicans Liz Mitchell and Marcia Barrett, Maizie Williams from Montserrat and Bobby Farrell from Aruba. Most famous songs from Boney M. are probably Daddy Cool and Ma Baker which climbed the charts in the 1970s in the UK as well as Germany.

Boney M. with its Orignal Lead Singer Liz Mitchell will perform on Saturday 25th September in Castillo Sohail in Fuengirola. This is the first time ever that they perform in the Costa del Sol. Ticket prices start at 30 Euro for standing tickets and go up to 70 Euro for premium tickets.

All you artistic people, listen up. On Friday, 1st October an enrolment evening will be held at the Centro de Artes in Mijas Pueblo starting at 19:30. Painting, drawing, ceramics, tile painting and even languages are just some of the large variety of classes on offer, so there’s sure to be something for every creative soul.

The extremely popular centre was established in 1972 by foreign residents with the aim to develop creative arts in local and foreign communities and has since become an important part of Mijas life. The Centro de Artes is self-financing and non-profit making, run mainly by volunteers.

The British economy and housing markets weren’t the only victims of the global recession. Spain also suffered with house prices dropping from their high in 2007.

The Costa del Sol, however, is always going to be popular for tourists and migrants seeking to set up home there, due to its warm all-year-round climate, multitude of golf courses, fantastic beaches and amazing countryside.

In fact, the Spanish government estimates that more than one million foreigners will buy a property at the Spanish coast, or move there, within the next six years. By the year 2025, this figure is expected to treble. It’s fair to assume many of them will be moving to the Costa del Sol and so ensure a continuing demand for property.

The Costa del Sol is still considered a prime investment area, due to its popularity as a tourist destination. Prices remain relatively high here compared to most other parts of Spain, but due to continuing demand there is huge potential for long term growth.

According to the Institute of National Statistics (INS), Marbella the favourite of many Costa del Sol holidaymakers has registered a 12 percent increase in overnight stays this summer. The latest figures also show that hotel occupancy rose by seven percent. The mayoress of Marbella, Ángeles Muñoz was quoted as saying “These are the best figures in the last five years”.

In July this year, Spain’s government said the nation’s tourist arrivals rose by 4.5 percent, which was the biggest year-on-year increase in more than two years. In the same month, the tourism ministry says about 7 million tourists arrived to Spain, which was the third consecutive month of increase.

Tourists from Britain, who are also estimated to be the owners of around one million properties in Spain topped the list with 7 million arrivals, followed by those from Germany with 5 million and France with 4.7 million.

Spain is consistently ranked among the world’s top three tourist destinations – both by arrivals and income earned – along with France and the U.S.

Good news for all naturists, as Mijas opens its first official nudist beach in El Chaparral.

This 500 metre stretch of sand is located at km 204 of the A-7 motorway and situated on Marina Beach near the Calaburras lighthouse. It is one of the least frequented parts of the Mijas coastline and access is only available to pedestrians.

Public or social nudity is nothing new to the world – it was common in ancient Egyptian times. Greek athletes participated in the Olympic Games unclothed. By the 1840’s beaches in the United Kingdom were used for nude sunbathing, and the practice became even more popular in the 1950’s along the French coastline. Nude beaches have since spread around the world. Though they are still few and far between. They are often referred to as free beaches, clothing optional beaches, and naturist beaches.

The beach in Mijas was officially opened last weekend and despite being classified as a “nudist beach” it is open to all bathers.
