The temperature in Andalusia this week soared to alarming heights, causing many towns to issue orange and yellow alerts. The mercury is expected to rise up to 42ºC this weekend, with night-time highs of as much as 25ºC over Friday and Saturday.

Andalusia is home to the hottest and driest summers in Spain, but in the west, weather systems sweeping in from the Atlantic ensure that the region is kept relatively wet in the winter, with some areas receiving abundant rainfall. Contrary to popular belief, Andalucia enjoys above average yearly rainfall in Spain.

The majority of holidaymakers to Spain will want to visit during the height of the summer. While the weather is reasonably nice all year, although coldest in January – things don’t really start hotting up until June. After that you’ll be lucky to even get a brief shower until around October.

So what about the coming month of September? Well, Andalusia is well known as Spain’s sunniest region and you’d be unlucky to not get good weather all over for the entire month. Seville (like Madrid) may still be unbearably hot, but the coastal cities will be more comfortable temperatures.

The average maximum temperature in Malaga in September is 82°F/28°C and the average minimum temperature is 64°F/18°C.

Spanish meteorologists say the recent heat wave has been caused by an anticyclone, affecting Andalusia, Extremadura and Castilla la Mancha.

However, all that aside – these blazing hot days have still not managed to break the all-time record, for the hottest temperature ever recorded in Spain was a whopping 47.7ºC on the 6th August 1946 in Sevilla-Tablada.

Well that’s hot enough to learn that you could use your seatbelt as a branding iron!

The visit which will start 4th August has already caused huge excitement amongst the Marbella population and their surroundings. The town hall of Marbella has installed together with the two advertising agencies Imagen Consulting and Copremusa Sur a huge billboard at one of the busiest points of the N-340 road through San Pedro de Alcantara which reads “Welcome Obama Family” and in smaller print “Thank You For Choosing Marbella”. The Obama family will pass by this billboard on their way to the Hotel Villa Padierna they are staying in. The five-star luxury resort ranked among the top 30 best hotels in the world by Expedia on rank 28 with a score of 99,9 of 100 points and ranked the best hotel in Spain.

The city of Malaga itself sees an even bigger increase with an estimated 8 %. Several leaders in the tourism sector say they are very happy with these figures, as August looks to see an even larger increase than July. Owners of restaurants and bars also indicate that 2010 will be a better year than 2009 even if many tourists stay in their rented apartments and have dinner there. The increase of tourists to the Costa del Sol is by German, French, Italian and Spanish visitors, the Irish and British tourists are still on the decline.

Everybody hears here und there how bad the car business is going, but 80% less sales in the last quarter of 2008 compared to last year in the some period is causing massive problems to the branch in the coast. The Head directors of those car companies are worried not just because of the obvious profits effects but what to do with the stock of all the not sold cars? Can you imagine the place needed to keep around 25 Land Rover? They are beating the situation offering 30% discounts. Now is actually the time for those who have some money kept back, ever dreamed of such an opportunity to buy a four-by-four car with amazing discounts. The level of discount offered depends on the amount of time a vehicle has been in stock. There is no expectation to get any better in the economy this year and not even for next year, what kind of discounts are they going to offer end of this year?

For sure all of you are familiar with big names like FC Barcelona and Real Madrid, but there is one more club that deserves to get your attention. Sevilla FC, which main sponsor is 888.com, one of the world’s biggest online casino and poker room, is another very successful example of Spanish football excellence. Four times winner of the Spanish champion ship and several international achievements show that this club belongs to the collection of high-class football. Many famous players played in this club and even Diego Maradona found his way back to the Argentinean national team while playing in Sevilla FC.

Looking back on a long list of great games, Sevilla FC is seen as on of the favorites for the next Spanish champion ship and for sure worth a bet at 888 Sport, the new sportbook of 888.com.

As Goodwill Ambassadors for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), friends and football legends Ronaldo and Zidane and teams will face up to each other at mobilizing the public in the fight against poverty and to raise funds for projects in Asia, Africa and South America. The match will be broadcast by many television stations around the world. Ronaldo and Zidane have been the driving force behind the Match Against Poverty since 2003.

At the moment players such as Rivaldo (AEK Athens) and Roberto Carlos (Fererbahce) have confirmed their presence. At previous matches in Madrid, Basilea, Dusseldorf and Marseille, we could see not only football player. German Formula 1 driver Michael Schumacher and tennis player Rafael Nadal have taken part, as well as bullfighter Cayetano Ordóñez, who was personally invited by Ronaldo, played in the match in Marseille in March this year. The referee will be the famous Italian Pier Luigi Collina, who is now retired. But he hasn’t missed any Match Against Poverty yet. As David Beckham’s team, the Los Angeles Galaxy, have not qualified for the play offs of the Major Soccer League, maybe he is coming, too.

Tickets for the match, which kicks off at 7 p.m., cost between 10 and 25 euros can be purchased online at www.palaciodeportesmalaga.com from October 29th or at the Rosaleda Stadium ticket office from November 12th (open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.).

Zinedine Zidane, who retired from active football in 2006 after the World Cup in Germany is now living in Spain, near the well known Marbella, and I think that’s why they decided to play in Malaga.

As always, the FIFA, football’s governing body, supports the match, while two leading sporting goods manufacturers, Adidas and Nike, are providing the equipment used by the teams. In partnership with UNDP, the match is being organized with the support of the City of Malaga and the Malaga Football Club, which is providing technical assistance.

Proceeds from the first three Matches have benefited anti-poverty projects ranging from support to female entrepreneurs to the construction of sports centres for street children and the disadvantaged, in Brazil, Burkina Faso, Bhutan, Comoros, Cuba, Colombia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Guinea-Bissau, Haiti, Madagascar, Morocco, Namibia, Sri Lanka, Uganda, Tanzania, and Vietnam. Proceeds from the sale of tickets for this Match against Poverty will help finance new UNDP projects in Asia, Africa and Latin America.

The circuit is 30 minutes west of the city of Valencia and there are expected to be up to 150,000 spectators to watch the five-time World Champion Valentino Rossi trying to reclaim his title from Nicky Hayden on the four kilometre anti clockwise circuit. This race in Valencia means sun, fun and a lot of racing. So don´t miss the last Moto GP in Valencia, either direct or at least on TV. The race starts at 1:15 PM.

Last year Valentino Rossi started from the pole position but fell in round four. After a big catch-up he came to position 13. Troy Bayliss won the last Motot GP race, second was Loris Capirossi and third Nicky Hayden, who won the World Championship in 2006 before Valentino Rossi and Loris Capirossi.

The set up traffic plans worked well to keep the traffic moving on the local motorway and the traffic was better than everybody thought. Some people took advantage of an extra bus services laid on. The company is more than happy with their first day. They sold 16 complete kitchens and about 5,000 people signed up for the “Ikea Family” card. The first person who walked into the new IKEA store was Lufti Zeton Gómez from Málaga. He waited outside the Ikea stote for 12 and a half hours. But for this he was given a 300 € cheque by the shop managers. This Ikea store is the eleventh on the peninsula. Experts estimate that the new Ikea store will absorb nearly 30% of the furniture market in Málaga. It is expected to attract more than 1.5 million visitors in its first year, with a turnover of around 101 million € forecast for its third year of opening. Nationally the company will turn over more than 1 billion € this year. The whole store near Plaza Mayor cost the company 65 million €, with a sales area covering 20,000 square metres on two floors, and customer car parking for 2,400 vehicles.

And in the end the new Ikea shop will bring more than 500 new jobs for the Malaga area. Approximately 15,000 visitors are expected on inauguration day and up to 18,000 on the first saturday after it. In total the new store expects to attract more than two million shoppers in the next year. As far as the opening of a second Ikea store in the province of Malaga is concerned Marbella would be the perfect location for it, or Estepona. But at first we have to wait for the first store to open. Maybe the next store will open its doors in Granada or Jerez.
