San Juan is held each year on the night of the 23rd of June to the 24th (Dia de San Juan). It’s the welcome to summer and its celebration takes place during the shortest night of the year. I have seen it last year in Sabinillas, but in many towns, cities or villages on the coast is the same procedure. In Sabinillas a huge tableau is constructed on the beach a few days before the event. It is a work of art and every year is a different theme. Last year you could see some big buildings from New York with figures from Superman, King Kong on the Empire State Building, The Mask and Marilyn Monroe. At 12 o’clock at night there is a big firework and the work is set on fire. Keep away from the fire, because it’s really hot. I havn’t seen something big like this for a long time. Bossaball is a new sport related to beachvolleyball, beachsoccer, footvolley, capoeira and gymnastics. It is a serious competitive sport and a a lot of fun. Bossaball can be played in teams of 3, 4 or 5 players. It combines elements of volleyball, football, gymnastics and capoeira on a pitch of trampolines and bouncy inflatables. The court is divided by a net and similar to a volleyball court. The aim of bossaball is for each team to ground the ball on the opponent’s field. Each team is entitled to a maximum of 8 contacts with the ball on its own field, meanwhile the trampoline jumper gains height to prepare a spectacular smash. Any part of the body can be used to play the ball. Players can touch the ball only once with their hands, or double touch it with their feet and/or head. Once a team grounds the ball on the inflatables it gains 1 point. Scoring on the trampolines is worth 3 points. Hitting the bossawall (= the rings around the trampolines) doesn´t count as a score. With 25 points the game is finished. Bossaball referees have a whistle, a microphone and can have various percussion instruments and a dj set. They referee the game and make the Samba feeling. But they´re not required to enjoy a game of bossaball. Read more »

The Golfclub “Club de Campo La Zagaleta” is situated in the mountains above Benahavís in the middle of the golfers paradise of the Costa del Sol. The complex extends over 1.000 hectares in the midst of a protected area and impresses by its various biota. The club is strictly private, i.e. only permits members and their guests. If you want to be a member of this golfclub you have to buy a villa in the closed urbanization of La Zagaleta. The starting price for houses around here is about 3 Million € and goes up to 25 million €. This golfclub was designed by Bradford Benz from California and opened in 1994. Apart from the installations usual for the golfclub La Zagaleta has a hunting ground, a helicopter landing pad, riding center and a palace-like club house, which was once the home of the Saudi Arabian Financiers Kashogui. With its fantastic views over the mountains from Benahavís to Gibraltar La Zagaleta is probably one of the most beautiful golf courses at the Costa del Sol. It is probably the dream of every golfer to get the chance to tee-off at La Zagaleta’s private golf courses.

The “Golf & Country Club La Duquesa” was built after a design from Robert Trent Jones in 1987, surrounded by a spectacular countryside. 18 holes with par 72 on 6062m of amusing courses pamper most of all the sunbathers and aficionados of light seabreezes. The course offers large, wide fairways and demands from the player concentration and high precision drives. The second 9 holes are slightly difficult, but offer fantastic views to the Mediteranean, Puerto de la Duquesa, Gibraltar and the mountains. From hole 15, par 4, you can even see Marbella. Hole 17, par 3, is especially mentionable because of its beauty and spectacular 30 meter altitude difference. This golf course is always worth a visit because of its nice and fantastic views. Puerto José Banús, more known as Puerto Banús is a marina near Marbella on the Costa del Sol and in the heart of Andalucia. In May 1970 José Banús established this yachting port. It has moorings for more than 900 boats, including those of the King of Saudi Arabia and several of the world’s wealthiest individuals. The biggest yachts are up to 70 meter. In the harbour you find the most exclusive shops from Louis Vuitton to Armani and most exclusive cars from Rolls Royce to Ferrari. Therefore the port became more and more famous and is now known as playground for the jet-set glamour and the rich and famous. The streets behind the harbour are filled with bars and nightclubs and behind this is the main square with a big El Corte Inglés department store. There are many excellent bars usually open until 4 am. The livliest bar is xs bar which is located in the Plaza de la Comedia in the second line behind Sinatras. The bar is usually full of Marbella’s crazy crowd. The harbour is the synonym for the luxury and wealth of the Costa del Sol and is worth a visit.
