Spain resorts to visual aid to deter smokersThe neat black and white writing printed on the sides of cigarette packets announcing your impending death should you choose to partake of their wicked poison has been around for years, however just recently upped their game in the deterrent campaign. The sight that greeted smokers yesterday from the rows of cigarette packets in estancos across the country was not to be sneezed at, when images depicting extremely graphic smoking-related diseases were revealed to the public.

This drastic measure has come into effect only this week, but the actual deadline to abide by the law that has been passed is May 26th of this year. By this date all cigarette sales must be accompanied by these images, or the tobacconists will risk serious fines.

The question now is, do they really work? Do graphic pictures of smoking-related diseases deter anyone from smoking or do they just look disgusting?  Read more »

Ronda – famous for their bridges and bullfights

Ronda - El Puente NuevoRonda is a small famous to tourists from all over the world. It is located about 100km Northwest from the city of Málaga and 50km North of the in an elevation of 723m in the hillside called Serrania de Ronda. The Old or in Spanish just La Ciudad is stamped with moorish characteristics. Since the 5th century the islamic dominated this part of Spain. Ronda was very important due to its elevated situation.

The Old Town is situated on an all around steep sloping plateau and is separated from the younger district called El Mercadillo, through a 100m deep gap called El Tajo, built by the river Rio Guadalevín. There are three ways to cross this gap, the Puente Romano – Roman Bridge, the Puente Viejo – Old Bridge as well known as Puente Arabe – Arab Bridge, and the well known Puente Nuevo – New Bridge, which was built between 1761 and 1793 and is the tallest of all three bridges and still in use for cars.
